For some people, depression feels like an overwhelming sense of sadness that makes it feel impossible to get out of bed or go to work. Other people with depression can go through all the motions perfectly — showing up to work, being a good parent, keeping up appearances — while feeling completely hollow inside.
Sometimes, you can look at your life and think: Yup, right here! These are the stressful and terrible things that are making me depressed! Other times, your life might seem pretty great on the outside – but inside, it feels so dark. That disconnect between how your life looks from the outside and how it feels on the inside can make depression feel even more isolating.
No matter how your depression is showing up in your life, our therapists are here to walk the path alongside you. We offer evidence-based treatment for depression in our office in Indianapolis or virtually in over 40 states.
Regardless of the treatment approach, the therapists at Will Psychology believe that trust and compassion are the foundation for quality care. We show up for our clients with care and deep respect for who you are and what you’re carrying.
We know and truly believe that you are trying your best — and that this healing is hard. We will always meet you exactly where you are, each day, without judgment.
We start with a no-pressure phone call to see if it feels like a good fit, for you and us. We’ll briefly talk about what’s bringing you to therapy and answer any questions you have.
We get to know you: your history, how depression has shown up across your life, what you’ve tried before, and what you’re hoping life looks like when therapy feels complete.
In therapy sessions, we explore all the things that make you you. We spend time understanding how depression shows up in your life and when it began. We also get to know the things that bring you joy and make life feel worth living.
Depending on what treatment approach resonates with you, we might spend time helping you learn concrete skills and tools to manage your low energy and depressive thoughts. That might be DBT tools or values-based action. Or we might get to know your depression in a judgement-free way, learning how it’s trying to help you or what traumatic events might be at its core. A lot of times, depression therapy leads us into trauma or legacy work.
As therapy progresses, many clients notice a broadening emotional landscape: feeling the sadness as well as the joy, energy, and color of life. When trauma wounds can heal, or when we can learn to live a values-driven life that embraces sadness as an essential human experience, we feel deeper agency, resonance, and purpose.
We work with major depressive disorder, persistent depressive disorder (dysthymia), situational depression, postpartum depression, and depression that co-occurs with anxiety, trauma, or major life transitions. We treat adults 18 and older.
Therapy is a well-established, evidence-based treatment for depression. Studies find that therapy is often as effective as medication and can lead to more lasting, long-term change. For some people, a combination of therapy and medication is most helpful. As psychologists and licensed therapists, we don’t prescribe medication. However, we’re happy to coordinate with your prescribing provider if you’re already working with one, and/or help you consider the pros and cons of medication if you’re not sure about starting it.
That’s incredibly common, and we understand it completely. You don’t have to feel ready — you just have to take one step. Reaching out for a consultation is that step. We’ll take it from there, at your pace.
Yes. We offer online therapy to adults across Indiana, New York, and 40+ additional states through PSYPACT. In-person sessions are available at our north Indianapolis office.
Please know that these thoughts are something we take seriously and treat with compassion. Therapists at Will Psychology have extensive experience supporting clients who are having suicidal thoughts. If you are a client, our goal is always to help you feel and stay safe in your current environment if possible (in other words, we always consider hospitalization a last resort). However, Will Psychology is not a crisis center. If you are in immediate crisis, please contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988.
We are an out-of-network practice. We provide monthly Superbills for potential reimbursement and offer a sliding-scale fee for clients who are a strong clinical fit but cannot afford our full rates.
Take one small step. A free 15-minute consultation — no commitment, just a conversation.
