DEPRESSION THERAPY

it's time to get un-stuck
-
Are you exhausted?
-
Is it a battle to get out of bed every day?
-
Are you tired of trying to put on a happy face, while inside you feel alone, numb, or devastated?
-
Do you feel stuck in this sadness?
Depression often feels like a monster and a bully. It feels like it knocks you down and then shoves you back every time you try to get back up. That constant struggle to get yourself out of bed, to go to work, to be present with your friends or kids -- it's exhausting. You might even feel so overwhelmed and exhausted that you've thought about ending your life. Sometimes, you can look at your life and think: Yup, right here! These are the stressful and terrible things that are making me depressed! Other times, your life might seem pretty great on the outside, but inside, it feels so dark. No matter how your depression is showing up in your life, our therapists are here to walk the path alongside you. We offer evidence-based treatment for depression in Indiana and New York. We can meet you in our office in Indianapolis, or virtually through a secure telehealth therapy platform from the comfort of your home.

“WHEN THINGS ARE SHAKY AND NOTHING IS WORKING, WE MIGHT REALIZE THAT WE ARE ON THE VERGE OF SOMETHING. WE MIGHT REALIZE THAT THIS IS A VERY VULNERABLE AND TENDER PLACE, AND THAT TENDERNESS CAN GO EITHER WAY. WE CAN SHUT DOWN AND FEEL RESENTFUL OR WE CAN TOUCH IN ON THAT THROBBING QUALITY.”
PEMA CHODRON
The therapy team at Will Psychology is well-versed at helping clients with depression. Each of our therapists has strong training in a variety of evidence-based treatment approaches and will individualize your treatment to meet your needs. Here are some examples of how our clinicians treat depression:
DR. SARAH GONZALEZ incorporates ACT and DBT to treat depression, prioritizing empathy, collaboration, and the client’s lived experience. DBT skills such as emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and mindfulness can help clients manage intense emotions and reduce maladaptive coping, while ACT interventions encourage acceptance of difficult internal experiences and commitment to values-based actions. Throughout treatment, Dr. Gonzalez maintains a person-centered stance by fostering unconditional positive regard, validating the client’s perspective, and empowering the client to set meaningful goals, ensuring that therapeutic techniques are tailored to the individual’s needs and values.
DR. JOANNA WILL often uses an Internal Family Systems (IFS) approach to depression. With IFS for depression, Dr. Will helps you get to know your depressive feelings and urges in a compassionate way, without pathologizing or judging them. She helps you learn why sadness and fatigue are showing up and how they might be trying to help or protect you. Together, you'll discover new ways to access inner wisdom and clarity and facilitate healing of hurt, sad, and wounded parts of yourself.
